Shakespeare Theatre Company

Photo Exhibit Accompanies Hero/Traitor Rep

If Shakespeare had a camera, what would he have captured? Where would he have gone?

Shakespeare Theatre CompanyThe Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., will exhibit a selection of images taken by award-winning photographer Nina Dunn throughout the company's run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) during the Hero/Traitor Repertory (March 28–June 2), featuring the productions Coriolanus and Wallenstein.

Dunn's work translates the beauty and spirit of Shakespeare's Europe through vivid photos taken from unconventional perspectives. She uses light and color to show the graphic detail that is symbolic of a larger environment or mood, allowing the viewer's imagination to complete the story.

The exhibition brings together 24 key photographs from the artist's Europe series. All will be offered for sale, with all proceeds from the purchase of the framed photos and acrylics in this exhibition benefitting the artistic and education programs of the Shakespeare Theatre Company. To purchase Dunn's photography from the exhibit, patrons can visit the STC gift shop or reception desk at Sidney Harman Hall.

Dunn is “excited to use this exhibition to help the Shakespeare Theatre Company and honored to have [her] work shown in this spectacular venue,” she said in an STC news release.

“The passion Nina has for her photography is clearly visible and we are thrilled that she has chosen to generously use her talent to benefit the theatre,” said STC's Chief Development Officer Ed Zakreski in the release. He said this exhibition is a “unique, one-time opportunity” to celebrate and connect the interests of patrons with the Hero/Traitor Repertory Series.

Dunn began photographing at the age of 5, using a Brownie box camera and concentrating on family members, frequently with their heads cut off. Since then, she has upgraded her equipment and broadened her focus to a wide range of subjects, including urban and wilderness landscapes, wildlife, and people.

Dunn has practiced her photography alongside her practice of law. With more than 25 years of experience in international trade and investment, securities law, and national security matters, she advises corporations on business, compliance, and regulatory issues.
