Web Series Takes on Romeo and Juliet

Ready Set Go Theatre Co. logoBrooklyn-based Ready Set Go Theatre Company plans to release a 10-episode web series of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Oct. 31. Tailored for the screen, all 10 episodes for R & J (the web series) will be released online at www.readysetgotheatre.com and the company's YouTube Channel.

In this adaptation by John Robert Hurley, fair Verona becomes New York City, a slaughterhouse wherein two rival butcher families, Montague and Capulet, battle for ultimate dominance. Montague's Romeo (Andreas Damm) and Capulet's Juliet (Jessica Ranville) meet at a Capulet party by the famous Boathouse on the Lullwater of the Lake in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, and fall deeply for one another.

Ready Set Go believes that the Internet is an extension of the Elizabethan theater. R & J (the web series) is RSG's second release of a Shakespeare web series. Its first, Othello, was selected for the Catskill Film and Video Festival and was used for various educational purposes at the Catskill High School. RSG is committed to using traditional techniques and modern media to create productions and materials focused on making Shakespeare a vital part of the modern classroom. R & J (the web series) will have lesson plans included for every episode, and teachers will have all the information available, free, when they contact RSG.

The trailer for R & J (the web series) is available at http://goo.gl/lkXx2B.
